Amrit Yoga at the Dome

Don Murphy first met a Yogi in 1969, when an Indian Yoga Master gave a program at his junior high school in Rutherford, NJ. Don practiced Yoga from books until 1973, when he met a Swami in Pennsylvania who was trained by Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh, India. Don lived in her ashram, studied the Classical Sivananda form of Raja Yoga and became a teacher of Yoga and meditation. During 17 years at sea, he practiced and studied Yoga 4-5 hours daily. In 1984, Don and his wife, Cindy, studied Transcendental Meditation and became Sidha Yogis. In 1997, they studied and were certified to teach Yogi Hari’s Sampoorna Yoga. They brought these classical styles of Yoga to their healing center in Amelia Island, FL, where they also practice holistic massage and Betar vibroacoustic sound therapy.
In 2006, Don and Cindy attended a four-day Yoga Nidra workshop at the Amrit Yoga Institute. Don describes their time with Gurudev, Kamini, Chandrakant, and the other senior teachers as, “a life changing experience. The Light of Gurudev’s teaching on Yoga Nidra and Amrit Yoga showed us that this was the Path we wanted to travel from now on.”
The Amrit Yoga Center at the Dome Healing Center now offers 11 Amrit Yoga classes and two Amrit Yoga Nidra sessions each week, open to all levels of practitioners. All Dome teachers are certified Amrit Yoga Level 1 or Level 2. A total of about 850 students have come through classes at the Dome over the past 4 years. Kirtan chanting and meditation classes have recently been added to the list.
Don reports, “The chanting is bringing a new uplifting Energy and Light to the Center. Yogi Desai’s style of Yoga has brought a new and added dimension of depth and focused awareness to the practice of Yoga at the Dome. All of our Yoga Teachers continue to learn and advance their practice so they can share the experience with those who desire to advance in Yoga with spiritually based conscious awareness. We have recently decided to donate all of the net proceeds from our Yoga classes to the Amrit Yoga Institute and Gurudev. Having been blessed in many ways through our professional, personal and Yoga life, we have come to the point where we feel a need to start returning our blessings from whence they came. Gurudev has been one of our biggest blessings.”
Don and Cindy hosted Kamini for the Relaxing into Life Workshop March 20-22 and it was a great success. Through tireless effort and heart-centered devotion, they have created a healing center where health and relaxation is palpable in the atmosphere.
