Biography
Between the Rocky Mountains and the high plains of eastern Colorado is where you’ll find me, Elaine Schuhrke, teaching Amrit Yoga classes, nestled in the quiet sanctuary of the historic Holy Cross Abbey of Canon City, Colorado.
My interest in yoga started as a teenager, when I found yoga books on the Penrose Library Bookmobile that visited Black Forest, Colorado, once a week. But it wasn’t until I attended college at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, that my interest was nurtured in a continuing education class, taught by a fantastic yoga teacher. Though my background and experience is varied, ranging from construction laborer for a custom home builder to elementary school educator and seasonal wilderness ranger, I seem to have always found a place for yoga. With Amrit Yoga Teacher Training, Levels I and II, I experienced and thereby learned the depth and breadth of yoga, beyond simple hatha yoga.
Though I have taught throughout Fremont County, Colorado over the space of the last seven years, in 2004, I started teaching Amrit Yoga in my own small studio. Currently I teach mostly beginners, but have recently added an intermediate class. With the teaching philosophy of “Start from where you are now” I encourage my students, ranging in age from 14 to 77 years of age, to use the anchors of bodily sensation and breath to fully experience the ever-expanding moment of now.
Stop by sometime! You’re always welcome to visit or drop-in for an Amrit Yoga experience. I’m also happy to present “A Yoga Sample” tailored to your group or class. Reach me at the contact information listed above.
Hope to See You Soon!
