Biography
Yoga first began to influence Bonita’s life in San Francisco in 1970, yet it wasn’t until she was exposed to the teachings of Yogi Desai through a dear friend in the 90's that she began to feel and understand the true meaning and dramatic transformational impact yoga can have on one’s life. With consistent practice, she began to experience powerful healing of a chronic physical ailment. The unexpected additional benefits of spiritual peace, emotional well being and mental clarity compelled her to immerse herself in yogic studies with Yogi Desai. She received her 600-hour Amrit Yoga teaching certifications in Levels 1 and 2 in 2002 and 2003.
For over two years she enjoyed a busy teaching schedule introducing Amrit Yoga to hundreds of students on the South Side of Chicago. Her students repeatedly expressed appreciation for the life-changing benefits they received from their practice and for the calm yet enthusiastic blend of insight, knowledge and humor Bonita exhibits in her teaching. In 2005 Bonita relocated to Leawood, a suburb of Kansas City. As Amrit Yoga is being introduced to the area for the first time, Bonita looks forward to continue sharing this exciting, unique approach to yoga that is so naturally suited for Everyone. Besides yoga classes for all levels, ages and body types, she offers private sessions and yoga and Yoga Nidra (guided meditation) workshops.
Her background in holistic health includes two decades as a certified massage therapist and health educator and a B.A. from DePaul University in Psychology and Holistic Health. The mission of her company, Way of Life therapeutics, is to help promote awareness, improved health and well-being through health education and wellness programs such as classes and private sessions in Amrit Yoga, individual therapeutic massage, meditation, and corporate stress relief programs.
