Biography
Dr Bill Dean is a practicing allopathic surgeon and physician who has taught yoga for the last 4 years and practiced hatha yoga for 10 years. He chose Amrit Yoga as the type of hatha yoga that he wanted to teach because it enhanced the meditation that he already had been practicing.
Dr Dean relates that the enhancing experience of Amrit yoga to meditation is like "like pouring gasoline on a fire". There is more to hatha yoga than practicing postures. The real substantive reason to practice any hatha yoga is to quiet the mind and to know the divine both in yourself and in the world outside. But the most important part of the yoga class is to practice at home in between classes. "This really accelerates the progress in the class and deepens the experience of yoga itself".
Dr Dean is also a 10 year student of Ayurveda (medical arm of the yoga tradition) and uses these principles of diet and lifestyle to embellish the class experience. |
